Saugeen Peninsula Invasive Species Collaborative

Managing Invasive Species in the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula, Town of South Bruce Peninsula, and Township of Georgian Bluffs.

What Are Invasive Species?

Invasive species are among the leading threats to native wildlife in Ontario. Invasive plants are non-native plants spread by global trade and human and animal transport. They invade forests and wetlands, and without natural predators to keep them under control, they degrade these habitats. They spread quickly, outcompete native plants, and deteriorate soil. A well established population is costly and time-consuming to control. Learn more about the four priority invasive species that the SPISC is focused.

Who is the SPISC?

The Saugeen Peninsula Invasive Species Collaborative (SPISC) is a community group made up of partnering organizations with a common interest in eradicating invasive species.

How Can I Help?

Invasive species can be found across the Peninsula. To have a truly landscape-scale impact on invasive species control, they need to be managed across the entire Peninsula, including on private property.

Free-of-Charge Control Services

The SPISC offers free-of-charge control services to landowners. If you have Phragmites, Dog-strangling Vine, Garlic Mustard, or Common Buckthorn on your land, sign up for our free control services immediately. Only together can we successfully control invasive species.
